I thought the question stated equal number of brand X and brand Y. With your method, aren't you implying different number of X and Y since you used different alphabets for the respective brands? Although in the end you did equate X and Y, I am doubtful whether algebra is suitable for a P6 level. I may be wrong. Thanks

Thanks for your comment. I believe primary 6 already starting to learn algebra. It is a good practice to learn algebra as they can solve many questions. Moreover i already stated in the end that x=y. I put them in different alphabet so as to not confuse the student. If not, it will be very messy.

I see. It's a good intention but I am not sure whether it's a valid method in the context for primary school student. They do learn basic algebra and simple simultaneous equation. However, the method you are presenting appears more relevant to a sec 1 context. I may be wrong.

Sure no problem. We are here to help the student anyway. Whichever method, as long as the student understand, it will be great. I am here just to do some math to past time and work my brain in the morning. Haha.
