Compare the Ka for both acids. The higher value will act more like an acid and has higher tendency to dissociate in solution to form ions. In this case, it is carbonic acid. It forms the respective ions in solution. Any qns comment below.

does methanol not play a part in part ii?
Methanol will prefer to stay as CH3OH due to its stability, hence the low Ka value. A very small amount of methanol dissociates in solution. Very insignificant amount. On the other hand, the Ka value of carbonic acid is 9 orders of magnitude greater than methanol. Hence, it will predominate over any weak acid.
