Imagine you’re travelling back in time...

Tracing your steps, you will reverse each transaction to know what they have at first. Your first clue is that they end up having the same number. Therefore,

132/3 = 44 marbles each in the end.

Referring to the image, from top to bottom, you will see how each transactions is reversed.

Note that Ali was involved in FIRST and LAST transaction only. After his 1st transaction, he had 17 left. How do we know? Because after the last transaction, he has the same number as everyone else. So, when reversing the very 1st transaction, we must remember to account for his marbles on hand.

Now, how do we check?

The circled items are the initial number BEFORE any transaction takes place, therefore your ANSWERS. Check that your answers are right by adding all these numbers together to make sure they total to 132.
