Sorry about the lighting. For primary school, I suggest to draw a table and work it out step by step. Once you can get the initial sum correct, you will start to see the difference in the totals getting smaller and smaller (11-8=3)

Alternative solution is to take:
41-17 = 24 toys difference
11-8 =3 toys difference
24/3 = 8 child
8+2 (first and last/+ remainder) = 10.
