Not quite sure why C + D = E + F
But I got C + D by assuming height of C is U.
C+D = (1/2 x 12 x u) + (1/2 x 12 x (8-u))
C+D = 6u + 48 - 6u
C+D = 48
Shaded Area = Rectangle - A - B - C - D = 120 - 48 - 12 - 12 = 48

@wil
C+D = E+F is derive from what you've done by assume height of C=u.
Since primary school may not learn solution for 6(8-u). I have upload another method to prove C+D = E+F.
