Well my method maybe time consuming, but it is a fool-proof way to solve it.
Black squares should be pretty easy.
White squares are the sum of all the odd numbers (For example, for Figure 6, then we add all 5 odd numbers then multiply by 4). For Figure 15, we add all 14 odd numbers then multiply by 4.
