Can someone help to explain?
Given Spring Y has lesser compression than Spring X
Ans: Spring Y. Reason being, length of compression is lesser than Spring X. So there is lesser elastic PE. Is it correct?

Hope it helps.

Elastic spring force generally opposes gravitational force. So if subjected to the same amount of gravitational force, the one which can resist that force (stiffer) has greater spring force.

HI, thanks for explaining.
But the solution in this paper was spring y has lesser length of compression when sane load of mass is placed on. Hence, there will be more elastic PE in Spring Y than Spring X when compressed to the same length that is converted to KE of the metal disc which is transferred to KE of the candy.

Why must the student explain in term of elastic PE energy and not elastic Spring force?

In the context of the candy dispenser, both springs will be compressed to the same degree. As such, spring Y which has a greater spring force will store a greater amount of elastic PE than X. As a result, the candy will have more kinetic energy (elastic PE converted to KE) thus moving faster.

So the elastic PE is more relevant than the elastic spring force.

The elastic PE is a composite measurement which include both the elastic spring force and the degree of ccompression. So force alone is insufficient to explain the faster movement in most cases.
