Alternatively, we can let original number be X. New number will be 100X.
Sum of original number and 4 times new number is:
1X + 400X = 401X
Since 401X = 1194.98,
1X = 1194.98 / 401 = 2.98
Original number is 2.98

Dont understand
let the unknown number be x
then when you move the decimal point 2 times to the right it will become 100x
4times of new number is 400x
the sum will be 401x
then now you use division to find the value of x here
