White rice cooked = 1 - ¾ = ¼
Brown rice cooked = 1 - ⅜ = ⅝

Equal amount of white rice and brown rice cooked, so the number of units should be the same.

This is a question where you make the numerator the same.

Multiply by 5, White rice = ¼ = 5/20
Brown rice = 5/8

so we can say there are 20 units of white rice , of which 5 units were cooked.
And there were 8 units of brown rice, of which 5 units were cooked.

Total = 8 units + 20 units = 28 units

Cooked = 5 units + 5 units = 10 units

Fraction that was cooked
= 10/28
= 5/14

She bought equal amount of brown and white rice: white rice is half of the total amount of rice,and brown rice is the other half
She had 3/4 of white rice left: she cooked 1/4 of white rice
1/4 of white rice = (1/4 × 1/2) of total amount of rice =1/8
Had 3/8 of brown rice left: cooked 5/8 of brown rice
5/8 of brown rice = (5/8 x 1/2) of total amount of rice = 5/16
Total amount of rice cooked = 1/8 + 5/16 = 2/16 + 5/16 = 7/16

This is incorrect. The amount of cooked white rice and brown rice is the same, not the total amount of white and brown is the same for each.
