unit cost
p: 1 u
c: 3 u

cost
p: 31 u
c: 45 u
total = 76 u

1/4 = 76 u
remaining money = 3/4
3/4 of remaining = 9/16
so
9/16 = 76 u x 3 x 3/4 = 171 u

total no. of calculators bought
= 15 + 171/3 = 72

The question mentioned that he bought more calculators with ¾ of his remaining money, which equals ¾ of ¾ of his total money at first.

¾ x ¾ = 9/16 , so in your last equation you should be finding 9/16 x instead of ¾ x

Slight error in your working, it should be 304 ÷ 16 = 19, not 304 ÷ 9 = 19
