6 doughnuts—-> $7.20
Buy 6 the 7th at half price, @ $0.60
Therefore 7 doughnuts—> $7.80
$96 / $7.80 = 12 sets of 7 doughnuts Remainder $2.40
12 x 7 = 84 doughnuts
$2.40 can buy 2 doughnuts
Therefore $98 can buy 84+2= 86 doughnuts.

Every 7 donuts = $1.20 × 6 + $0.60 = $7.80;
12 x $7.80 = $93.60;
$96 - $93.80 = $2.40;
Total donuts = 7 × 12 + 2 = 86
