(a)
1/R = 1/3 + 1/6
R = 2 ohms

effective resistance is 2 ohms

(b)
total resistance = 2 + 6 = 8 ohms

(c)
p.d. across PQ
= 2/(2+6) x 24
= 6 V

(d)
p.d. across QR
= 6/(2+6) x 24
= 18 V

OR
p.d. across QR
= 24 - 6
= 18 V

(e)
current flowing thru' A
= 6/3
= 2 A

in part a), the law stating that the effective resistance across 2 parallel resistors A and B) is as follows: Reffective = 1/[1/Ra+1/Rb]

after part a), we combine the resistors A and B into one effective circuit as seen to find the total resistance simply by adding to solve part b).

In part C, we use Ohm's Law (V=IR) to find the total current in the circuit which is also equal to total current in C.

In part D, we use potential dividers where the voltage across 2 points PQ = [(Rpq)/(Rtotal)]*Vtotal

The same principle can be applied in part e, or the answer can also be obtained by subtracting Vpq from the total voltage, or emf of battery.

in part f, the current in A is found by the formula ([1/Ra)/(1/Ra+1/Rb)]*(Total Current in branch)
