For part D you only got that because of truncation errors. If you substituted the exact forms both will give back 450m².
The approach to this part should be that one value of x (≈6.37) will give you a negative value of y , while the other value of x (≈1.96) gives a positive value of y.
Since length cannot be negative, that value of x is rejected.

sidetrack a little, if you're checking for which estimate is better (let's say given to you and not having calculated), you'll have to check the percentage error in absolute terms for each value.
