The graph of y = tan x is just drawn simply like that.
I believe you know what the modulus sign does to the graphs.
You must know that the graph of y = 1 + cos x starts out at 2, drops to 1 at 90 deg, drops to 0 at 180 deg, goes up to 1 at 270 deg and returns to 2 at 360 deg.
Each x-coordinate of the points of intersection represents the x-solutions to the equation concerned.
