When the iron rod touches the metal contacts, a closed circuit is formed, allowing current to flow throughout the circuit and lighting up the bulb
When the iron rod touches the metal contacts, a closed circuit is formed since iron is a good conductor of electricity, the bulbs light up.
When the electric current passed through the steel bar, it becomes magnetized and attracts the iron rod, hence the iron rod moved towards the steel bar.

On a side note... When the iron rod touches e metal contacts, a closed circuit is formed, the steel bar becomes magnetized n attracts the iron rod. The circuit thus becomes broken ie e steel bar loses its magnetism and e iron rod falls to make contact with the metal contacts thus making a closed circuit and causing the steel bar to be magnetized to attract the iron rod n breaking the circuit.. So it just go on in a loop. Can understand?

b) When the circuit was closed, the steel bar (being a magnetic material) was magnetised into an electromagnet. The electromagnet attracted the iron rod, thus, the iron rod moved towards the steel bar.
