Using the equation, s = ut + 0.5at^2, substitute in values of distance s, initial velocity u, and acceleration a.

hi thanks for your answer :) may i ask why is the initial velocity 1/2? :) thanks

Initial velocity is 0, as the car is initially at rest.

The formula is
s = ut + 0.5at^2,

where:
s = distance = 400
u = initial velocity = 0
t = time, unknown
a = acceleration = 5

Hence,
400 = 0×t + 0.5(5)(t^2)

As you can see, 0×t = 0, so the equation is simplified to
400 = 0.5(5)(t^2)
t^2 = 160
