Hi my teacher said that Z is carbon cuz it has four electrons and the crosses represents it but when I counted the crosses it’s clearly five

that’s why I’m really confused someone please explain to me

hello! the fifth electron that you see belongs to the other carbon (Z) that is bonded to your current carbon! Recall that each element donates 1 electron each to form a single bond! so although there appears to be 2 crosses belonging to one Z, only one electron among the 2 actually belongs to the Z, which is why your teacher said there is 4 electrons on Z!
