In my three years of diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering I learned what engineering really is. Is not just electricity, it’s what makes everything work. From mobile phones to our important needs like healthcare, everything requires an engineer. During my diploma I learned the fundamentals of engineering and learned how to work with other people as teamwork and communication is very important in getting things done.
My two years in Singapore Polytechnic have been very fast paced. During the first year it was very difficult to balance my studies and other activities as it is very different from school life. Now being in three two I have learned to balance my academic and other activities. I learned different programming languages like C++, C and PLC ladder logic. As I learned that I was more interested in the electrical field rather than electronics. Hence, I joined World Skill Singapore in Industrial Control.
World Skills Singapore gave me extra exposure as after my first year ended I had a 6-week internship at MOK electrical. This allowed me to see what electrical engineering jobs are like. For 6-week I had to go to the office and from there to the site where they had to do the work. I helped the full-time workers with drilling in concrete and wiring of the office which they were assigned to do. It was a very enriching experience as I had learned many important things and experienced them. I even got to go to the DHL office at Big Box where I helped the worker with wiring. I won bronze for smart poly challenge as well as a gold award for Singapore Polytechnic Engineering Show 2019.
