for part (ii), this should be a possible method. however, the answer -44/27 looks a bit weird, so not sure if have mistake. you have the actual answers?

note that as d varies, the curve is shifted vertically up and down. the x coordinate of the turning points remain the same.

we find the value of d when the maximum point just touches the x-axis, and also when the minimum point just touches the x-axis.

outside this range of d, the curve will cross the x-axis at only one point.

note: checked on the GC; answers should be correct.
