I assume you have part 1. Just in case:
Total number of students: 42
Boys: 5/7 x 42 = 30
Girls: 2/7 x 42 = 12
Part 2
Since same number ( y) of boys and girls are selected,
Unselected boys : 30 - y
Unselected girls: 12 - y
Ratio of unselected boys : unselected girls = 7:1 so,
30 - y = 7 (12 - y)
I'm sure you can work out the rest! Cheers!
