This is electromagnetism which is the interaction of electrically charged particles and uncharged magnetic force fields with electrical conductors which creates the electromagnetic fields.
6a) The batteries are used to supply electric current to magnetise the iron nail.
6b) When the switch is closed, the electric current can now flow through. The iron nail is then magnetised which allows it to attract the steel rod.
