Is it possible to solve part (d) using normal distribution?
P(X1 > a and X2 < a ............. and X50 < a)
And multiply by 50 as the lap that will take more than a seconds can be on the second lap, third lap .......... 50th lap

Since the required lap can happen in any one of the 50laps, that is why Binomial is used, coz you need to permute, Binomial includes permutation...

If you multiply by 50, answer should be the same. Did you do (0.01)*(0.99)^49*50?
Think you might have misplaced the 0.99 and 0.01...
