for any logarithm, two things to take note of are:
log(a) b = log(x) b / log(x) a - the brackets expressing the logarithm bases
log(a) b^c = clog(a) b
log(a) b = log(x) b / log(x) a - the brackets expressing the logarithm bases
log(a) b^c = clog(a) b
