Sorry, but that was the answer that I had and I still got a cross from my teacher.
I understand it but my teacher said it is wrong as she marked it as wrong.
3/8 of the remainder DOES NOT mean 4/5 - 3/8.
It’s 3/8 TIMES 4/5.
This equals 3/10.
Amount left
= 4/5 - 3/10
= 5/10
= 1/2
It’s 3/8 TIMES 4/5.
This equals 3/10.
Amount left
= 4/5 - 3/10
= 5/10
= 1/2
You’re right Eric! So sorry about the mistake Azfer!!
There is actually a difference between “3/8 of the remainder” and things like “3/8 kg of the remainder”.
Without the extra “kg” or “m” or “cm” or something like that, it’s a multiplication relation.
Had the question said things like “3/8 kg” of the remainder, then yes, 4/5 - 3/8 is correct.
This question is about sweets, but if it is about masses it could go like that.
