Let x cm/s be the speed of Neptune.
Speed of Jupiter = (x+20) cm/s
Distance covered in 12 seconds:
Neptune: 12x cm (2/3 of the race, so entire race distance would be 18x cm)
Jupiter: (x+20) * 12 = 12x+240 cm (entire race distance)
Hence, 12x + 240 = 18x
Solve x = 40.
Total distance of race (solve using either Neptune or Jupiter):
12 (40) + 240 = 720cm
Or
18 (40) = 720cm
