Chart Y is exhaled air. When we breathe in, we are using up oxygen and producing carbon dioxide. So the air we breathe out contains more carbon dioxide and lesser oxygen, as shown in chart Y

For (b), nitrogen is not used up or produced by the body during respiration. So the amount of nitrogen remains the same in both inhaled and exhaled air.
