I presume “to simplify” means to make them into a single fraction. The approach is very similar to how you would convert mixed fractions to improper fractions.

Simplify here means to group each type of term together and evaluate the result of the number operations.

1 + 4(3x - 1)/9

= 1 + (12x - 4)/9

= 1 + (12x/9 - 4/9)

= 1 + 4x/3 + 4/9

= 1 - 4/9 + 4x/3

= 5/9 + 1⅓ x

Since this is E Math we leave it in mixed number
