Let total number of pupils be x
(1) y = 7x + 5
(2) 13x = y + 61
y = 13x - 61
(3) 7x + 5 = 13x - 61
7x + 66 = 13x
6x = 66
x = 11

Can’t use algebra for P5
Excess shortage question.
Compared to giving 7 stamps to each student, giving 13 stamps is 6 more than that.
13 - 7 = 6
Now if you want to give each student 6 more stamps on top of the 7 they already are given, your remaining 5 stamps is not enough to do so. You need 61 more stamps to do that.
61 + 5 = 66
So you need to give 66 stamps more to the children.
Since each child gets 6 more stamps,
66 ÷ 6 = 11
There are 11 children.
