Wee Teck, your way of solving part d) may be marked down because you state that 1-x^2=0 since 6^0=1. If this question is a 2 point question, you will lose the working mark.

No, you will retain the 2 marks, since 1 can be written as 6^0 and we can compare the powers.
Students who do not recognise that 6^0 = 1 will attempt to take logs, the less efficient way.
This is likely to be a 2 mark question. 1 mark for either taking logs or doing what Wee Teck did (which will definitely not be penalised), and the other mark is for the answer mark.

Sorry my bad, if this is an indices question, you can improve your presentation of working. Sub in 6^0=1 into the equation, then write down the statement “by comparing powers” before writing down that 1-x^2=0.
Back in my school, I would get marked down if I do not present clearly that I am comparing the powers. Just an advice to properly secure your points.

It actually depends on the schools, but the O Levels will not mark his working down. Having said that, a better presentation is like what you mentioned.
Personally I won’t mark down his presentation because the elements of his answers are there.
