Jane has 3 more coins than Mary, which means Jane has 1/5 (of total) + 3. Sylvia has the remaining boxes because the question said that the coins were only shared by the 3 sisters. In the model, 3 + 12 equals to 3 units. You then find 1 unit and multiply it by 5 to get the total number of coins.
