Let area of Square be S ,
Total area of figure = Area of Square + Area of Rectangles - Shaded Area
= S + 9/8 S - 1/4 S
= 15/8 S
Fraction of shaded area to total area = (1/4 S) / (15/8 S) = 2/15
Total area of figure = Area of Square + Area of Rectangles - Shaded Area
= S + 9/8 S - 1/4 S
= 15/8 S
Fraction of shaded area to total area = (1/4 S) / (15/8 S) = 2/15
