Using algebra method,
Let ‘n’ be the number of oranges.
Let ‘m’ the be number of bags.
If he packs 5 oranges in the bag, he has a shortage of 4 bags.
: n = 5m - 4
If he packs 4 oranges in the bag, he has 3 oranges left.
: n = 4m + 3
Equate both equations,
5m - 4 = 4m + 3
5m - 4m = 4 + 3
m = 7
Substitute “m=7” into one of the equation.
Therefore, n = 5(7) -4
n = 31
