Area of the shaded region = Area of ABCD - Area of the semicircle
Area of ABCD = base * height = 19 * y = 19y
Area of the semicircle (given in question) = 2y + 9
Area of the shaded region = 19y - (2y + 9) = 19y - 2y - 9 = 17y - 9
The answer is (17y - 9) cm^2.
Hope this helps!
