Ratio of number of Cars : Lorries : Motorbikes
= 3 : 4 : 6
For this question, treat each lorry and car as having 4 wheels each and each motorbike as having 2 wheels each.
(In reality, most lorries have more than 4 wheels usually (double axle) . Some type of motorbikes are 3 wheeled as well)
Multiply the each number in the ratio by the respective number of wheels.
Ratio of wheels becomes :
3 : 4 : 6
×4 |×4 |×2
↓
12 : 16 : 12 = 3 : 4 : 3
Total number of units of wheels = 3 + 4 + 3 = 10 units
So 10 units = 800 wheels
1 unit = 800 wheels ÷ 10 = 80 wheels
Number of wheels the lorries have = 80 x 4 = 320
Number of lorries = 320 ÷ 4 wheels per lorry = 80 lorries
= 3 : 4 : 6

Number of lorries = 320 ÷ 4 wheels per lorry = 80 lorries

Dont understand the last step
Total number of wheels all the lorries have : 320
Now 1 lorry has 4 wheels. So how many sets of 4 wheels are there?
320 ÷ 4 = 80
There are 80 sets of 4 wheels.
So how many lorries are there? 80
