You will need to understand how the quadratic equations work in terms of their sketches. In particular, you need to be able to associate positive coefficients of x2 (“smiley face”) with minimum turning points and negative coefficients of x2 (“sad face”) with maximum turning points. You also need to realise that all quadratic expressions y = ax2 + bx + c, for a not equaling zero, have a vertical line of symmetry about the turning points.
