Both elements are non-metals and they should form covalent bonds by electron sharing. The maximum number of electrons in the second shell of each element to make the covalent bonds stable is 8. Hence the diagram shown here is how the electron sharing works. The mass of each element is the total of the protons (p) and neutrons (n). As shown here, they total up to 44g.
