ABC is a right angled triangle, with AC being the hypotenuse since it's the side opposite the right angle. By Pythagoras' Theorem, AB² + BC² = AC². So 30² + 16² = AC² → 1156 = AC². So AC = √1156 = 34. now AC is a diagonal of the base and AN is just half of it. So AN = 34 ÷ 2 = 17
