To sketch the quadratic curve, we need to know these three things.

1. Shape of the quadratic curve, depending on the signage of the coefficient of x2, “smiley face” denotes positive coefficient, “sad face” denotes negative coefficient.

2. Turning point. The x-value can be determined by setting the term in the completed square brackets to 0. The y-value is obtained by setting this value of x.

3. The y-intercept. This determines whether the graph cuts the y-axis above, below or on the x-axis.
