I have converted the word problem into a model diagram for easy reference.

In the first model diagram with blue colours, each long line is equal to the short line plus 14 cm, so two long lines are equal to two short lines plus 14 cm plus 14 cm. I placed the two 14 cm blocks behind so that it is easier to do calculations using the model diagram.
