You differentiated the exponential function wrongly. For exponential function like e^ax, where a is a constant, the differential is a*e^ax.

He probably missed that the first chain is e^4x - 4. From his workings, I realise that the first chain that he attempted is the '4x - 4' (which he also wrote wrongly, since the -4 is not part of the power).
