This is using converting fraction to ratio and changing to equivalent ratio to solve the word problem.

1/3 of the boys wear specs --> 1 out 3 wears spec and 2 out of 3 do not wear specs.

3/14 of the girls wear specs --> 3 out of 14 wear specs and 11 out of 14 do not wear specs.
