To do part a, we need to form two equations. One based on the total number of people and the other based on the total number of purchases. We then solve the equations simultaneously to obtain a and b.
We get a = 9 and b = 13.

To find the median number of purchases amongst the 50 people, we must identify the middle people i.e. the 25th and the 26th people. The first 5 people make no purchase, the next 9 people make 1 purchase1 each and so on. Both the 25th and the 26th people make 2 purchases each, so the median number of purchases must be 2.

To do part (c), we need to use the formula (in the formula list) for standard deviation and define the (summation fx2) and (summation f).
