Key point to note:
Original $ = Amount right from the start
Remaining $ = Amount after spending $29.90

To simplify, after spending $29.90,
she spent 7/35 of remaining $ on books,
12/35 of remaining $ on lunch,
and is left with 16/35 of remaining $ at the end

Because qns states that 1/3 of original amount is left at the end,

1/3 of original $ = 16/35 of remaining $

Then u can work out the rest as shown! :)
