Ibrahim's approach and presentation is pretty standard and explicit. At this late juncture.. you just have to try your best for the O-levels.

To solve these 2 questions, you need to know the topic on surds, indices and log. You also need to know factor theorem and solving cubic equations.
Review these topics well and you should have no problem understanding the solution.

Worked out this qn with my student yesterday and realised there is an error in part (a) solution. The error is in factorising the cubic equation.... (should be a careless mistake)
Representing y cube as y^3,
Y^3-7y+6 =0 is
(y-1)(y^2+y-6)=0
