5) Sub 5.5 into the eqn and you will find that it does not equals to 20. Hence it is not a solution.
6) let the number be x and consecutive number b x+1:
x + (x+1) = 31
2x + 1 = 31
2x = 30
x = 15.
Therefore the 2 numbers are 15 and 16
