If the uncovered white area is 65cm2, how to relate that the length is 9cm?
I think is because 8 x8=64cm2 is not sufficient. So minimally it has to be 9cm.
Also the answer given is 43cm for total length of black square. Is there a mistake to the answer.

Yup. At least 9cm. 8cm is too small. I think I am right.
