Let the amount of money Helen has be $x
Helen=$X
John=$3X
Sharon=$3X-66
Total amount of Helen. John and Sharon have is $214.
X + 3X + 3X-66 = 214
7X-66=214
7X=280
X=40
Since John has thrice as much money as Helen,
3X=3 x 40
= 120
Helen=$X
John=$3X
Sharon=$3X-66
Total amount of Helen. John and Sharon have is $214.
X + 3X + 3X-66 = 214
7X-66=214
7X=280
X=40
Since John has thrice as much money as Helen,
3X=3 x 40
= 120
