In order to find the shaded area, you have to take the Area of PQR - the Area of POQ.

The main part to understand is that:
Since the line POR divides the square into two equal parts, both the heights of triangle PTO and PQO are the same. The only reason the two triangles differ in area is due to thier base lengths. Take that ratio and you will get the ratio of the areas.
