On the top we have a 1m ruler, divided into 8 equal parts. Each part is 1/8m long.

On the bottom we have a 5/8m long string. After cutting it into 5 parts, you realise that each part is 5/8 divided by 5 which equals to 1/8.

Hence, the length of each part is 1/8m long.
