This question is slightly tricky but definitely manageable so long you are familiar with the concepts of sum of roots being -b/a and product of roots being c/a for any quadratic equation of the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0. The trick to answering this question is to be able to pick out the hints given in the question before applying the above concepts accordingly. Firstly, since the question gives you values of alpha - beta as well as alpha^2 + beta^2, expect to make comparisons between the two before proceeding. Secondly, the coefficient of x and the constant term are unknown values, so the question is actually telling you to form two equations in terms of p and q and solve them simultaneously. Once these are done, everything else should be simple already. Hope the worked-out solutions are clear enough for you. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask me. Cheers and all the best! :)
